Andi DeField
As founder of South Florida's Break the Cycle, Andi works to educate and empower young people to bring an end to domestic and date violence. The organization will be orchestrating "Band Together Week" during October, which will be a week of concerts and events aimed at raising awareness of the growing problem of date violence.
Miss DeField was a Monroe County Domestic Abuse Shelter volunteer for many years, and now works with the national organizations Break the Cycle and TheSafeSpace both based in Los Angeles. While promoting her platform, she hopes that she can also inspire other young people to give their time to a cause they are passionate about.
In addition to Break the Cycle, Andi also founded Operation: Feels Like Home. From a family of brave servicemen, Andi felt the need to establish a local organization for university students to support their troops. The group sends care packages to troops overseas during the Holidays so they can feel more "at home" while fighting for our country.
Andi is a 20-year-old senior at the University of Miami double-majoring in Public Relations and History, with plans to attend Law School in the Fall of 2008. She is a member of numerous service, honor, and social organizations including Relay for Life, Phi Alpha Theta: National History Honor Society, and Delta Phi Epsilon sorority. She is also on the Provost's Honor Roll with a 3.8 GPA.
Outside of her academic and service pursuits, Andi is an internationally recognized equestrian, local event planner, and is an avid Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes fan.
